1st Thursday

first thursday art walk time. jaime roy and i braved the elements to check out what was going on in pioneer square. we got started down at the lawrimore project.

there we found a couple instillations of note. the first, a dissent, was a pile of rocks each etched with a word from a critique the artist received.

the second, flight path, was a mock-up of an anti-aircraft gun firing a number of war planes and helicopters into an adjacent wall.

moving on to soil, some great little optical fun with mirrors with parts of the reflective backing removed. when the light shines down on it, there is a reflection of the pattern above, and a mirrored shadow below. pictures don’t do them justice. they’re up through the 28th so go see them yourself.

at la familia, there were a number of “trophies” which were heads of different animals of prey mounted on plaques and hanging from the wall. each animal was constructed entirely out of wire. think they may have been my favorites all day. jaime and i even debated getting one and sharing it.

at g. gibson, there were some cool cantilevered contraptions that suspended themselves within bell jars and onto walls. the little engineering geek in me loved them.

the award for LMAO was right around the corner. far too much to document. basically they were blown up notebook paper with graphs and diagrams charting all sorts of hilarious tidbits of life. the best was this diagram of the seven deadly sins and an example of the combinations of the two. enjoy

at 619 western there was just one artist that caught my eye. all encaustic paintings on old books and maps etc. here’s one i especially liked.

on our way back to jaime’s for some tasty soup to warm our bones, we came across a great bit of fall night light outside the train station and had a little photo shoot.

and then, about 5 min after arriving home on my bike, a ridiculous thunder/lightning/rain/hail/windstorm blew in and through. soooooo, glad i didn’t get stuck out in this!
