My first, and second, tattoo
My first, and second, tattoo
so, my day off was a flurry of excitement. i spent the morning the way i usually do, in the studio. didn’t seem like an exceptionally nice day at 7 am, but once i got on my bike in the afternoon to head home it was flippin’ gorgeous.
i met up with alison at my place to go grab a bite to eat before my tattoo appointment. we headed down to maggies bluff to take in the scenery of elliot bay. quite the nice afternoon.
from there we headed to slave to the needle in ballard where john fitzgerald would be giving me my first tattoo.
(check out his portfolio HERE)
so the plan had been to get my first tattoo on my left inner arm, then, my next appointment (supposedly late june) would be for my second tattoo on my right inner arm. well, when we showed up, john said why don’t we just do ‘em both now. HELL YEAH! what a fantastic idea.
a couple winces, and two hours later and here is what you get:

left

the one with the chisel is a quote from Michelangelo. it means:
it is well with me only when i have a chisel in my hand.
the script comes from his own handwriting that i “tirelessly” recreated (read: spent an afternoon in the library examining the differing characteristics of the 15 different letters in the quote).
the one with the hammer is an excerpt of a quote from Rodin, which reads:
...devoured (consumed) by the fire of his own creation.
i did the same thing with that one in using the artist’s own handwriting. i think that things came out very nicely. i’m very excited for them to be all nice and healed and show-off-able. and then also to surprise my mom with them (so if you know rosemary, NO TELLING!)
